They Shot the Piano Player
They Shot the Piano Player is a feature film by Oscar nominated directors Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal. We follow a New York music journalist (voiced by Jeff Goldblum), who goes on a quest to uncover the truth behind the tragic disappearance of young Brazilian piano virtuoso Tenorio Jr. Half-documentary, half-fiction, the film combines archival material including interviews with João Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Vinicius de Moraes, as well as filmed performances, together with a scripted narrative into a thrilling investigation set in 70s Latin America.
The film was produced by Fernando Trueba Producciones (Spain), Submarine (NL), Animanostra (Portugal), and Les Films d’Ici (France). Anneke de Graaf, with whom we’ve worked on Little Charlie, was the animation supervisor.
